Formatting Services

Finch Press is currently providing basic formatting services for the interior of a text for both print and various eBook formats. We do this by using Vellum software.

What is Vellum? How do we use it?

Vellum is a book creation tool for Mac that allows you to professionally format books for publication. It has a number of features that will allow us to produce a beautifully designed interior. Regarding heading images, if there is a specific image you want to use for the headings besides the standard that is provided by Vellum you MUST own the rights to the image that you want to use and you will need to supply it to us. 

If you already have an eBook cover for your novel, please supply it to us so we can incorporate it within the epub, mobi, kindle files etc. 

What can we add to your interior?

• Heading Images – you must own the rights for it.
• Ebook Cover image – You must own the rights or have permission to use it.
• Front Matter – Title Page, Copyright/Imprint Page, Dedication Page, Disclaimers, Table of Contents, Epigraph, Foreword/Preface/Prologue/Introduction, Also by page, Reviews page etc.
• Back Matter – Acknowledgements, Epilogue, Afterword, Endnotes, About the Author, Also by etc.

Cost of formatting

1. Ebook Only* = $25

• Includes adding additional pages such as imprint, dedication page, disclaimers, table of contents, about the author etc. So long as you either include the information in the manuscript itself or you provide the information for me to include.
• Your choice in style for interior.
• Front Cover image added, if provided and if you own the rights to it.
• Includes fully formatted manuscript in multiple ebook formats for Kindle, Apple, Nook, Google and Kobo as well as Generic EPub format.
• Formatting of manuscripts up to 100 000 words. If your manuscript is above 100 000 words I charge a $2 fee every additional 5000 words.

2. Print Only* = $35

• Includes adding additional pages such as imprint, dedication page, disclaimers, table of contents, about the author etc. So long as you either include the information in the manuscript itself or you provide the information for me to include.
• Includes fully formatted manuscript in two trim sizes (i.e. 5.5 x 8.5 inch for paperback and 6 x 9 inch for hardback).
• Formatting of manuscripts up to 100 000 words. If your manuscript is above 100 000 words I charge a $2 fee every additional 5000 words.

3. Print and Ebook* = $50

• Your choice in style for interior.
• Front Cover Image added, if provided for ebook and you own the rights to it.
• Includes adding additional pages such as imprint, dedication page, disclaimers, table of contents, about the author etc. So long as you either include the information in the manuscript itself or you provide the information for me to include.
• Includes fully formatted manuscript in one trim size.
• Includes fully formatted manuscript in TWO ebook formats for either Kindle, Apple, Nook, Google, Kobo and/or Generic EPub format. You can choose which formats you want exported.
• Formatting of manuscripts up to 100 000 words. If your manuscript is above 100 000 words I charge a $2 fee every additional 5000 words.

4. Extras = $10 per extra

• Adding heading images to your manuscript. You must own the rights for the image or have permission to use the image.
• Exporting fully formatted manuscript in additional trim sizes. 
• Exporting fully formatted ebook in unlimited formats.
• Create a box set eBook or print file.
